The name of the tract comes from the word "vidybaty" - a wooden idol of the god Perun, which was thrown into the Dnieper near Starokyivska Hill during the baptism of Kievan Rus, flowed here. The first church on the territory of the monastery was St. Michael's Church, built in the early twelfth century. the monastery became one of the centers of chronicles.
