The silver coin is devoted to a scientist with a world name, the founder of Ukrainian schools in the field of bridge construction and electric welding, outstanding engineer and educator Eugene Oscarovich Paton (1870 - 1953). On his initiative, the Electric Welding Laboratory under the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was created, which in 1934 was reorganized into the Institute of Electric Welding, whose director and scientific leader, Eugene Paton, was unchanged until the end of his life.
