During the National Liberation War of the Ukrainian people under the leadership of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, a Ukrainian Cossack state Hetmanate was formed, whose military-administrative and political center was Chygirin. The first capital of the Hetmanate was the residence of such hetmans as B. Khmelnitsky, I. Vygovsky, Y. Khmelnitsky, P.Teterya and P.Doroshenko.
